Reasons to love the Winter season at The Levee
Pump it up!
To snap out of sluggish on icy Winter mornings, get the endorphins going and soak in some sunshine by cycling the lower scenic route of River Walk on your daily commute. The promise of smooth espresso and the burnt caramel sweetness of a Portugese tart from caramel taste of Portugese tart Lady Blackbird Sourdough and Pastry will put some pep in your peddling. Grab a seeded baguette made on 1890’s San Fran Sourdough Culture to go! If the outside temp makes it tough to get out from under your doona on weekends, a Fitstop membership lets you take a mate to train with you for FREE on Saturdays which may boost your mojo, while bodies tense from bracing in the cold may benefit from remedial care at The Muscle Rescue Lab.
Reconnect and revive through gentle movement with a low impact group class at Muse Pilates. Get your glow going with a little LED light therapy at The Beauty Room by Clara or bliss out completely with a Winter Wonderland pamper package at Pure Soul, Skin and Body which invigorates dull skin with a dry body brush, cocoons you completely in a thermal body mask, melts away stress with a hot stone foot treatment and wraps things up with some herbal tea and choccy in the afterglow.
Escape the elements!
Warm the soul with a catch-up over a decadent white hot chocolate made with Cadbury Dream at Gloria Jeans, or grab a seat at Black Label Espresso.
Craving comfort?
Eateries along The Levee really lay it on thick for comfort food over Winter. Not so classic Eggs Bene is spiced up with pulled pork, firey jalapenos and harissa hollandaise at Orange Tree Cafe, best enjoyed out on the sunny deck watching the river roll by. Water views are the order of the day at Lavendars Café too, along with a piping hot bowl of hearty pumpkin soup. Who could say no to honey drizzled walnut baked brie at The Whistler, and just try to stop at that when there are hot honey or whiskey bbq wings up for grabs!
Bulk-up on energy boosting carbs with a weekly pasta night at The Imperial, or locals’ favourite house made gnocchi at Acacia Dining. Stay in with a couple of pizzas or pastas from Ometto Pizza on Tuesdays and the woodfired bread is free! Like it hot and spicy? Maneeya Thai Masaman Beef is a crowd pleaser. Grab some good reads at McDonalds Booksellers and Stationers. Well-thumbed editions can be swapped out at Maitland Book Exchange at the turn of the season.
Cosy things up!
Keep your spirits lifted with some targeted retail therapy to feather your nest with rich tones and tactile textures. Start with the simple joys of soft throws for the sofa from Circle of Friends and the golden glow of exotically scented candles from Preah Ko. An op shop and vintage ramble to accessorise your space with burnt sienna tones, clay terracotta, deep umber or dusky pinks is all it takes to cosy things up and keep some coin in the kitty for refreshing your look the following season. Have a hunt for hand knit woolly sweaters at Twice Treasured and coats with character at Red Cross Shop.
While you’re at it, get some zing into your kitchen pantry with some Nepalese, African or Middle Eastern spices from Ag Mart. And make Earth Markets a winter morning ritual on Thursdays to stock up on a seasonal harvest of root veggies, free ranged eggs, thick cut artisan breads and luscious home style preserves from local small farmers. On any Winter’s Day, just stepping into the Darrell Lea Shop to tingle your senses with the sweet scent of childhood favourites is enough to warm the soul.
